Redemption!
Last week, a midst impending grandmother’s visits, birthday parties, & crazy multi-tasking, I prepared a big batch of Baklava, packaged 75 pieces, and brought them to distribute to the Women’s Networking Luncheon. Needless to say, it was a hit and everyone loved it, but I received some unexpected comments.
Two women, who are friends of mine, came up to me after and complimented me on my baklava in a way no one ever has before. Both had had REALLY bad baklava in the past. They were a bit hesitant to try mine because of their previous experiences. Most of the women who came to the luncheon ate their piece just when they sat down, but these two women…waited…1-2 hours! I happened to be sitting across from one of them at my table and I have to admit I was curious how come she would just sideways glance at her piece which quietly sat there looking up at her.
In the end, they succumbed. Tentatively taking a small nibble, they smiled. Baklava had been redeemed! Each woman made a point to find me after and explain their story. They were scared to take a chance on another piece of baklava but were so glad they did because it was the best, so they said, baklava they had ever had: the right amount of gooeyness, the favors blending seamlessly, and just enough crunch to satisfy.
I had NO idea there was a demographic of people who have had such bad experiences with baklava that it would inhibit them to try a new one. If you have had a bad experience with baklava, please let me know and I will be quick t remedy that by sending you some!
